The 14th Amendment was the legal capstone of the Civil War. The 13th Amendment did its job freeing the slaves, but without the 14th Amendment, de facto slavery (Jim Crow Segregation) would have remained longer than the 80 years it lasted.
The 14th Amendment is the Liberty & Equality Amendment. While the 13th Amendment freed the slaves, the 14th defined the extent of their freedoms; but not only that of the 5 million or so freed slaves, but also all Americans.
Take for example, the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution. Many Americans don't realize those Amendments did not apply to the States. It is only through the 14th Amendment's incorporation that those Amendments were applied to the states.
The 14th Amendment made America what it is today, it is the legal foundation of the fruits of the Civil war. But SCOTUS has had a difficult time letting the 14th do its liberating and freedom protecting work over the decades since the Civil War.
We are all waiting with baited breath to see if this SCOTUS will take its place alongside the Plessy v. Ferguson SCOTUS that ruled separate was equal; if this SCOTUS will eviscerate the plain English language meaning of Sec. 3, of the 14th Amendment.
It may be the next Congress, 119th, will have to undue damage that this SCOTUS may do. That is why I am running. To protect the liberty & equality of the American people. To be true to the Constitutional Oath, to pass on our future generations, this last best hope of mankind.
